Riverdale Reviews: Intro

June 8th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

One of my goals for the summer is to visit, become familar with, and better able to utilize the resources of Riverdale (NY) which has been my home for the past four years.  On moving in I was quick to dismiss the neightborhood. I knew I wanted a quiet place where I could walk to and from my car at night without looking over my shoulder, a place that was close enough to work, and somewhere that provided ease of getting into Manhattan. Riverdale seemed perfect and I do still love it, however one cannot deny the lack of things to do here, especially compared to other, hipper outer borough neighborhoods. One of my favorite comments on Riverdale comes from my friend Tony who grew up here. He says something along the lines of if he were to get super rich he would put it all into making Riverdale cool. I applaud that.

For all of its quiet suburbaness, though, I have realized there are probably some hidden treasures here. Why get in the car or onto the train if what you need is just a (scenic) walk away? And with that I vow to explore my neighborhood, my home, which I have previously neglected.
